Test #1: The Spray Bottle Test (The Quick Test)
What to do:
- Wash a small section of your hair with regular shampoo
- Let it dry completely with no products on it
- Spray it with a water bottle (just a light mist)

If it says “lightweight” or “penetrating”: Look for ingredients that are tiny enough to get inside your hair. If heavy oils are listed first, it’s lying.
If it says “repair” or “strengthen”: Look for proteins like wheat protein, silk protein, or keratin. These fill in damaged spots. Without them, you’re just buying moisture that won’t stay.
If it says “sealing” or “buttery”: It should have heavy oils or butters that coat your hair. Not so heavy it suffocates it though.
The most important thing: Buy pH strips (they cost like $3). Test your products. Your conditioners and styling products should be between 4.5 and 5.5. Anything higher keeps your cuticles open.
